Eric Fesmire-First Poem

Untamed expanse and untouched by man
I am one of those men
who really only chose this class for times sake
not realizing i would write lines
of the wilderness kind

I chose this ULLC without first consulting the chosen topics. I am fortunate that this is what i picked however, because Religious studies is one of my minors, and I probably would never have thought about religious activity from this perspective without this class. The combination of location and spirituality and how these two interact, and how it has changed over the years, is an interesting subject. Professor Redick mentioned the sublime, that response that mixes wonder, fear, and beauty. I think if my poorly written poem does anything, it does hit on that idea of wonder and fear. One of the aspects of the wilderness that draws us humans back time and time again is that untamed nature, the mystery of landscapes bigger than us. If we come upon a secluded area it is easy to think that few humans have seen it before, and that can lead us to an experience of solitude within nature.
