Chatting with Trees- Chris Modlin

There I was, on the Noland trail. My assignment called me to "Communicate with nature", a notion that I, as a logical thinker, would usually dismiss. But I sat there, opening myself to the place.
My rationalism led me to complain at first- "How can I communicate with these trees? They don't communicate, all they do is swing in the wind!"
Then it hit me, as if the trees were actually speaking it. "one does not always need to speak", they said. "Look at us".
They did not talk, but swayed and moved with the wind in a way that now seemed both elegant and powerful; relaxed and strengthened. "join us, it is a happy life".
Scientists say that 90 percent of human communication is nonverbal. I'll bet it is for those trees too. Sometimes we need to stop moving our mouths and just communicate. Instead of saying "Chill out" or "take it easy", just dawn a smile and a relaxed demeanor. They'll get the idea. Sometimes we need to just let the breeze roll through us.
