So I just went to KY for Thanksgiving to meet my (step)father's side of the family for first time. His father just passed away a few years ago so we hiked up the hill to the Ratliff Cemetery. While we were up there some of us were complaining about how could it was, and my dad said something along the lines of "of course it's cold, you're up on a hill, but you can't get closer to God than this". It reminded me of all the time in class that we spoke about the ideas of mountains being close to God and how universal this idea was that it could even be applied to a tiny hill. My dad and his brother also had a little ceremony which reminded me of what the Hindu people do in Puja, a sort of communion with the dead. They poured beer over the grave and stuck a lighted cig at the head in the ground and they drank around the grave. A little different than in puja with flower petals and berries...but still the same concept lol.
