Image and Pilgrimage (2) - Kevin Covucci
In Image and Pilgrimage, Turner discusses the idea of liminality or the "in-between stage". That basically being that when you are on a pilgrimage you are very liminal, you are not who you were before your pilgrimage started, and you are definitely not what you will be after your pilgrimage, you are in that gray area, the in-between section. After reading this I started thinking about where else in my life could I consider myself being liminal. One major time in my life comes to mind when I sit down and consider it. That time being my first year working as a camp counselor at the summer camp I have attended for many years. During that very short four week period I think I learned far more about myself than I have in the rest of my 19 years combined. That summer was I time where I really grew as a human and adapted to be a more vital and important member of society. I am not sure I would have noticed it at the time, but looking back I was so extremely liminal. I went into the summer as one version of Kevin Covucci, and came out a completely different and i would even say upgraded version. However, I would have never guessed this transformation was going on as my summer progressed. I could have never guessed how I was going to come out, and find it extremely interesting to see exactly how I grew into what I am now. Overall I found this topic to be extremely thought provoking, and it was probably one of my favorite topics we discussed in class.
