Austin Davis Downpour

Camping out at a race track earlier this semester during several of my friends events I was the resident personal photographer for their races. There were less than a dozen people camping out as spectators around the 3.7mi track surrounded by woodland and cow pastures off in the distance. Within the infield there were only a select few trailers and race groups, indicating a very small semi pro event weekend. Within the infield all of my racing friends had ez-ups trailers and trucks along with a small grassy portion littered with tents, after the sun fell the dark sky's opened up. A true down pour where you could see the different waves of rain coming at you. Everybody was huddled under an EZ-up, we were circling around a makeshift fire ring. After the fire failed due to the conditions everybody realized how ill prepared they were for the night and most retreated for their truck seats and the select few enclosed trailers. At this point I realized how ill prepared many are for reverting to living with the earth in a more naturalistic setting. The area with all the tents seemed desolate as there were rain flys and camping supplies rolling around between tents proving vacancy due to a lack of maintenance and preparation. The issue within here is how the luxurious lifestyles of the race-groups leads them away from the wilderness as they all could have easily experienced the power of "mother nature" as I did hanging in a tree, while they all woke the next morning stiff necked from their firm leather truck seats.
