Choice 2 - William Pfeiffer

My second choice has to do with what seems like wilderness to me: the city. When I first came to Christopher Newport and Newport News, I felt extremely out of place. Here was this country bumpkin who was used to riding tractors down the road now looking out along the road and seeing wave upon wave of endless cars. I found, though, that I could escape and cope with this when I visited places that reminded me of a simpler life, like the tree by the volleyball court or the shade under the cherry trees. These became my sacred spots because, using Lane’s fourth axiom, I was able to channel my old life into my new.
