The "liminial" college student
In high school it was easy to dismiss any ideas about what to do with ones future. All you had to concentrate on was what college you wanted to go to and how to get there. However, once one gets to college the question of what to do with one's future becomes all consuming. From the all consuming nature of future plans in college one becomes aware of there in between state. The college student is liminial. They are "adults" but have not gotten their civic identity yet. In modern society your job is often what defines you, it is what you spend 40 hours a week concentrating on. In college you have not yet been given this job and therefore remain in a in between state.
