The Bible - Josh Osteen
THERE IS WILDERNESS ALL OVER THE BIBLE (and in it too!). Moses took the Israelites out into the desert for 40 years and they had to rely on their spiritual father; our Lord in heaven, to give them everything that they need. Moses also had to climb a mountain that God himself covered in clouds (to conceal himself) and talk to him face to face. You might be asking yourself...is there any important ideas from this? YES! There is. The mountain in this story (along with most mountains back in those days) represent being close to God. The elevated elevation was a symbol of being closer to heaven and therefore closer to God. There are a lot of stories in the Bible that happen on a mountain and that just adds to the reasons and support for this idea. Landscape in the Bible is a very important, but somewhat overlooked portion of the meaning of some of the stories that occur.
