Paige Dwyer-Essay of Choice (4)
Yesterday in class Dr. Redick started off by saying he has something to pass around and he wanted us all to write a sentence describing our experience with it. Immediately I knew it was a rock. It was the shape, color and size of one. When it was my turn to hold it I observed it and took note of his oddly greenish and blue color, smooth texture and fairly light weight. I knew it must have some significance otherwise we wouldn't be having this exercise. The more I felt it in my hand the more I wondered about its origin. I thought to myself where it must have come from, possibly from a large mountain or from the bottom of a creek? Finally we were told it was a small piece of a very large mountain called Mt. Lassin that erupted years ago. We saw pictures of this gargantuan mountain which made the experience much more special. It was so cool to be able to have a piece of it in my hand. The lesson I got out of this experience was that we are all a small part of a large world. We are not insignificant or worthless but merely a piece of a puzzle that helps make the world complete. We all have a history and an ancestry that traces back thousands and thousands of years. And when one looks at the larger picture we can see the role that we all play to make the world complete.
