The Size of Sacred Place - Billy Cox
In late October, more specifically Halloween weekend, I spent the weekend at the Grande Dunes resort in South Carolina, and I began to contemplate the size of sacred place. The beach stretched on as far as the eye could see, and I remember questioning to myself, "This beach is so large, if any part of it were sacred, how would I ever know? It all looks the same." If any part of the beach were sacred, would anyone ever be able to find it, and if it all looks the same how would I be able to communicate how to find it. Even more so, would they even need to find it if it all looks the same. When looking south I could see a great number of the girls in our group performing yoga on the beach. They had been in the same spot since sunrise. Surely they were having some sort of religious experience in the sun on a deserted patch of sand, but after they're done, can anyone else experience what they have? This is most certainly what the second axiom means when it states "ritually made extraordinary". If I were to sit down and do the same as they, would I also experience something similar?
