Jacqueline Thornley: Topic Relating to Class
Once upon a time, many classes ago, Dr. Redick told us a story about a man he and his friend had met whom out of the blue invited them to a house party. The first party they went to was great and everyone had a good time. Everything just seemed to work. But then the second party they went to just seemed off. Even though everything was the same as the party before, something just wasn’t right. He used this story to demonstrate the concept of flow because even though something can be exactly the same, if the “flow” isn’t there then it just won’t feel right. I listened to the humorous story and I jotted down some notes but it wasn’t until later that the message really resonated with me when the same thing happened to me. At the beginning of the year we had thrown a really successful party. Everyone had a great time and couldn’t wait for the next one. But at the next one, something just wasn’t right. Even though everything was the same and we had all the same people, it just wasn’t as fun. We didn’t seem to have that little extra or any concept of flow. So I took a lesson and just like the guy from the story, I told a few guests that something just wasn’t right and I left. Better luck next time I suppose.
