In the second part of Lane’s book, he discusses how the common things in life can retain a certain holy quality to them. He writes, “Common things, common actions, common relationships are all granted new definition because the holy has once and for all become ordinary in Jesus Christ.” (p. 66) So many times in each and ever day, I experience things I consider to be holy in my personal life that no one else could understand, and it happens with the common things in life. I do not have to travel to some “sacred” temple or mountain, but am able to find truth through the common. The sunshine that reflects in the windows of a tall building it fills me with such a warm feeling and never ceases to put a smile on my face. That feeling of sunshine on my skin always feels the same. It is consistent, but more importantly it speaks to me. While the experience brightens my mood it also sends me into a mode of reflection. It is through this kind experience that the holy can be found in the ordinary.
