Morgan Creekmore- Axiom

"Sacred place is ordinary place, ritually made extraordinary" is the second axiom. I think this axiom plays a very important role in understanding sacred place. Large-scale rituals like the AT make the place known and give the place a cultural meaning. It's interesting how small-scale rituals, like the pancake eating contest, can make a small place, like the restaurant, sacred as well. By imposing our presence and meaning on a place through ritual, we make the place immortal in the human imagination. Of course, as in Lane's clearing in the woods story, the place can impose it's own meaning to us and spur the rituals. When place reveals itself to people, then it captures our imaginations and so myths and legends are born to that place from which rituals are created.
