Arrenvy Bilinski- Outside reading: National Geographic; Antonio Gaudi

“My client is not in a hurry,” said Antonio Gaudi when speaking about God and explaining why the construction of the enormous, sublime, Catholic Sagrada Familia church was taking so long. I have witnessed this church being built in Barcelona, Spain. I fell in love with the way the architecture looks draped like wet sand from a sand castle. The idea behind all of Gaudi’s architecture is quite profound, his premise is that “if nature is the work of God and if architectural forms are derived from nature, then the best way to honor God is to design buildings based on His work.” A true devotion to his life long work makes me realize how Gaudi’s love for nature is so great that he incorporated tons of aspects of nature in every piece. In the presence of this building that is more than just a church, the elements are simply breathtaking and it supports any theory that spirituality of place can happen even at a man-made creation.
