Roland Chandler: Image and Pilgrimage: Liminality

The stage of mid-transition in a rite of passage is the most difficult phase. It is when one knows there is a change that must occur from comfort and familiarity into change. This is seen clearly in Cold Fever, as the main character starts to face emotional struggle on top of his physical struggle through Iceland to complete the burial rites for his parents. However, he knows he must follow through for more than his own good. Through this, he is liberated into the wisdom that spiritual journeys and rites of passage free the soul from pain.
