Erin King- topic of choice reflection
I have been working with horses since I was 9 years old. It is something I cannot imagine my life without, even with the stall cleaning. The feeling of having a close bond to an animal that is so powerful gives me that sense of grounding in the world. I love going to the barn and being surrounded with open fields, trees and animals that are so kind hearted (well most of them). One of the best parts about working with horses is the experience of a trail ride. Not only do you escape to the natural wilderness, but you are connected to an 800 pound animal. The amount of trust on both parts is crucial for success. I feel the same sense of peace and harmony when on a trail ride as I do hiking or walking in nature on my own, if not more. I feel apart of the encounter, working as one with my horse, exploring places unknown. It sounds so cliche but I truly feel like apart of this earth not just an observer when I am with horses in the wilderness. The connection with the earth is stronger because I am trusting my life with an animal that is doing the same with me, the experience is truly amazing. The wilderness is a place for inner peace, and I definitely love that feeling and cannot live without it.
