Ashley Pepper - Outside Reading (2)
One of the books I used for my annotated bibliography project, as well as my research paper was the book by author Bill Bryson. The book titled, A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail, provides a sense of humor to provide details from his journey across the AT. He had a friend accompany him on this journey by the name of Stephen Katz and the two of them experienced everything that could go wrong from bear attacks to cars getting impounded and even to the loss of key provisions. Despite Bryson's humor, he is still able to teach the reader about the history of the Appalachian Trail and does so by creating a "moving plea for the conservation of America's last great wilderness. This book was a funny response the craziness of the Appalachian Trail. All the other books I have read have had a more serious connotation about them, and it was nice to read one that was humorous for a change. Their hike was definitely inspirational and I hope to one day have such an experience, just minus all of their mishaps!
