Being Present-Nayra Guevara

Lane discusses four axioms in his explanation of sacred place. Although every axiom is essential to the description of a sacred place, I believe the third axiom is the most important to comprehend. Lane describes the third axiom as a sacred place that “can be tred upon without being entered.” Many people see a sacred place as a place in which any person can attain a spiritual experience. In reality, this idea is false. In order for a person to have a spiritual experience, they have to be in the right mindset. Lane states that a spiritual experience is connected to the states of consciousness. It is interesting to note that just because a location is called ‘sacred’ does not mean it is sacred for everyone. There may be some places that seem customary to some and not sacred at all. However, someone else may have a spiritual experience in this commonplace location.
