Nature has a special appeal to children. You tend to find children gazing in awe at the smallest thing from a flower to grass. I read a lot of C.S. lewis' writing. This is one of his articles about writing for children, and I think it is very profound.
"Critics who treat adult as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence.. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."
According to C.S. Lewis, part of being grown up is being able to do childish things without fear of other adults judging you. In his own life, the example he gives is reading fairy tales which he used to do in secret as an adolescent, but openly now that he is grown up. I think that this ultimately relates to being able to show your heart without worrying what other people think of you. Being an adult means being able to be passionate about your hopes, fears and dreams. I think this includes beauty. For the sake of culture and not going with the flow we no longer oohh and ahhh over a sunset or make a big deal out of the first flowers of spring. I think we need to change this in order to be fully adult.
