Erin King- Noland Trail Adventure

There are many interesting articles and quotes from the Wilderness as Sacred Place, Viewing Nature Interactively handout we received in class for guidance in the Noland Trail walk. Some of the most interesting passages were Martin Bubers I and Thou. I liked the perspective on Love, and the difference between an experience and an encounter. "Love is responsibility of an I for a You." Meaning that love is responsible for the shifting of the perspective of "I" or me to you or rather for you. When you love a person, it makes you shift the focus from yourself to the other person. He also argues that love exists between the I and You, and does not only exist for "I",treating the "You" as an object.Love is what is between the I and You. Similarly to Love, the difference of experience and encounter take into fact the participation of both parties. I really liked reading Buber's quotes, even tho the first read of them is a little confusing. After a mind exercise of figuring out what he is saying, the message is quite powerful. This was helpful on the the walk of the Noland Trail because it made me think about how the place participates creating not only an experience but also an encounter.
