Fraternity as Communitas: Jordan Duling. 12-3-10

This semester, I am honored to say that I have become a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Whenever I am with my brother, no matter the number, I feel as if I am in a state of communitas. As we learned in class, communitas is the essential spirit of community... pure togetherness. No one member of SigEp is placed higher than any other; we are all equal. I sometimes ask myself while with my brothers: How can these fifty plus guys, al from different backgrounds be coming together and meshing in such a great way? Well, I found my answer through the studies we have done this year on the concept of communitas.
