icnophobia- Chris Modlin

a response to "Image and Pilgrimage"
I don't really understand the psyche of devout Iconoclasts. I realize the argument that God is too divine to be portrayed by human works, but does that really mean trying to do so should be a crime? Shouldn't the motive (worshipping God through art) be respected? Obviously even the best artist knows that he can't truly represent God, so it isn't like he's claiming too. I think if God was really who he says he was, he would be honored by artists who put great effort into depicting him or his son. After all, imitation is the most sincere form of flattery.
