Mexican Pilgrimages: Myth and History - - Zapopan - Tara Thompson
The story of Zapopan is, I feel, your typical, short story. However, despite it being so, the people of that time remember it to this day because of one, simple thing: the image of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception around Fray Antonio’s neck. I find it so interesting that because of that simple story, that image has become so important through out Mexican culture. It makes me wonder how important images really are, or how important their meaning is. I know that his might be an exaggerative example, but, what if he had been wearing a necklace with a butterfly on it instead? Would the butterfly end up being an important image for their culture? I’d say probably not. However, how do you think we adapted the important images we have in our society today? It seems to be put to chance! Chance, however, can be more than simply chance though, and might be better worded “fate”. I wonder if God has the intention for us to have images?
