Morgan Creekmore- Flow
Turner defines flow as "the merging of action and awareness" he goes on to say that the "self becomes irrelevant" and the ego is lost. This reminds me in many ways of meditation. He says that Flow is achieved through centering your attention, which is exactly what we aim for in meditation. In meditation, you are asked to center all your mind's attention to a mantra, a prayer in the form of one or two words. Prayer beads are usually used to help you focus on your mantra, each bead representing a repetition of the prayer. The point is to keep your mind from wandering to other thoughts, which is very hard to do, I've yet to manage this state. Then, you're supposed to think about nothing at all and that's when we transcend the Ego and can receive a spiritual message from God. The tuning out of the mind reminds me of when I'm listening to music and doing homework at the same time and I become so focused on what I'm reading that I miss a whole song. Anyhow, each idea, meditation and flow, seem very similar because they both refer to the Ego, focus, and both seem to have a similar goal.
