Types of Pilgrimages - Josh Osteen
In Turner's book, there is a section talking about the different types of pilgrimages. The first two he says are based from historical religions. The first one is about how a founder of a historical religion usually produces a pilgrimage based on something significant that they did or went. This just makes me intrigued because looking at Buddhism there is a metaphorical path that one must go through to perfect life. It is so interesting that some religious can be based off of pilgrimages and these keep people coming back to experience these in order to fully live the life of the significant figure they are devoted to. Another one of the characteristics of pilgrimages is the passion of the follower. After the life of the originator is over, it is solely the devotion and the passion of the followers to keep the pilgrimage alive. I wish I knew of any pilgrimages that were around this area. I personally would like to understand the feeling of making a pilgrimage. I want to feel the historical significance that an ancient pilgrimage brings it's challengers.
