1st Day Poem- Amber Matkowski

Northern girl living in the South
Wanted to know what this class was about
The wilderness and open lands
use to mean so much, now its forgotten
But now and then we're forced to remember

For who I am, I described myself as a Northern girl living in the South because although Newport News is not that "southern" the culture here has been a big change for me being from Philadelphia. I didn't really have any reason for taking this class except to see what exactly the curriculum would include. At the beginning of the semester, I thought of wilderness as a place that is so important to humans, yet as technology and construction continue to advance, it is often forgot about. However now and then we are forced to remember because the wilderness is too vast and overwhelming to go unnoticed.
