On page 213 of the novel Landscapes of the Sacred, it speaks about how the trail "fixes you".
In class we discussed that this means, you have sin-then born again-this allows you to recenter-and that allows you to eventually refocus.
I think that this is a power concept and really relates back to the movie Cold Fever that we also watched in class. It relates to that movie because at the beginning the young man was not excited at all to be hiking through the snow and mountains, plus he had many hardships on the way that were making his journey very difficult for him. Despite those hardships, he kept pressing on and eventually made it to his destination where he performed a ritual for his deceased parents. At the end of the movie the young man was able to reflect on his life and realize the importance of his journey. He was also able to come to terms with the fact that he was not always there for his parents when he should of been. He gained a new life perspective and ended up leaving his sin at the scene, realizing the importance of his life journey, realize what he can now do in his life to be of better service to people, and eventually apply that very concept.
