Ashley Pepper - Landscapes of the Sacred (2)

On page 222 of the novel Landscapes of the Sacred, a diagram is drawn to demonstrate space (topos) and place(chora).
In class Dr. Redick helped us to break down the diagram by saying that you start with a new belief, you connect it with a particular meaning of symbols, then you criticize it, and that leads to new symbolic symbols which in turn would start the entire process over again at new beliefs.
We used this diagram to break down the fact that wilderness is transcendent and immanent. Which we defined to be beyond (time etc.) and now in this place. We learned that God is both of these things simultaneously. And that us + the wild = awe. We fear it because we don't understand it, and this as we learned can be very overwhelming.
