Spenser Burcak-The Beauty of Nature (November 10, 2010)
Three times a week I get to experience the Noland Trail and all it has to offer, when I go running. I always enjoy going running along the trail, because back home in Northern Virginia, I get to run along side of houses and passing cars. When I go running along the lake, I just feel at peace with the world. I don't worry about the test that I have to take, or about the homework that is due that day, I just feel free and live. This probably seems silly, but this is a way that I can escape from campus for a half an hour or so and just have alone time. This class has reassured me that wilderness is sacred place, because I feel different when I am by myself running on the Noland Trail. Does everyone have a connection like this to nature? I hope they do, a connection with nature could reduce stress and allow people to experience the outdoors in a different way. Its amazing in today's world, that people do not take the time to do things that make them relax or even make them happy. People should be willing to accept the terrific views and hobbies that nature has to offer. How can anyone not be at peace with the world, when they look out at the water and the sun is reflecting down on a nice autumn day? These are the things that I miss when I use to play golf in high school. Nature has all this beauty but people do not take the time to experience it.
