Communitas from Lane- Amber Matkowski

Communitas is often experienced by hikers on long distance journeys. Lane explains that communitas is a temporary community built because of common experiences. Communitas often brings together people who have a common passion. The greatest experience I have had with communitas is at a five day volleyball camp. Although none of us knew each other, and teams were randomly assigned, we immediately felt a sense of bonding on our team. We all felt the same discomforts of not knowing another and that alonewas a bond we shared. Also all of the girls had a serious passion for volleyball. We didn't need to have previously known one another to quickly form what felt like a family. We supported and helped on another as in the end, we were all working toward the same goal. Hikers also do this because they shared the common dream of finishing their trail.
