I chose to read Dust of Snow by Robert Frost
The way a crow
Shook down on me
The dust of snow
From a hemlock tree
Has given my heart
A change of mood
And saved some part
Of a day I had rued.
This poem encompasses a lot of the concepts we have talked about in class. In the poem, the crow humbles the man by dusting him with snow, reminding that life is not about the material things that a heart cannot relate to. The overall theme of the poem shows how nature provides the feeling of grounding needed in life, a sort of snap back into reality. Because of this almost humorous situation, the man's day is lightened. It only took this slight interaction with the natural world to make his mind clearer, and save some part of the day he had not enjoyed. This feeling is similar to that of crossing a path with an entertaining squirrel or seeing a glimpse into the real world, that of nature. This poem also talks about how deep this interaction with nature truely is by saying it has given his heart a change of mood. He could have said it made him smile, but instead it caused a change of heart at a deeper level. I enjoyed this poem and thought it showed the value nature has in a human's life.
