Free Blog #4-Kristen Gladfelter
In one of the many classes, Dr. Redick showed us pictures of Mt. Rainier. This mountain stretched to miraculous heights and loomed like a sleeping giant. All I could think of is how the native people referred to this mountain as "the mountain that was god." It's such a powerful name to give something, and quit honestly, they were right. A powerful name for a powerful place. I began to wonder why would they give it such a name? Is it because the mountain claims lives year after year and spares some, acting like god who giveth and taketh life? Or was it an ancient name that they gave it if it blew up years befor and took out part of their tribe? What ever the reason, this mountain fits its name, even based on the picture.
