Free Blog Reflections on class-Evan Shively

Last year while taking world art with Dr. Moran, I heard about ancient pilgrims who would go on month long walks to a holy destination. One such pilgrimage really drew my attention, the Kamino. Dr. Moran described how the simple act of walking can allow you to find new meaning. She described how at first it is painful however once you comprehend that there is no way out you become fixed on your goal, focusing your mind and allowing you to reflect on life. I wanted this I though however, I assumed it was something outdated and there was no way to participate in such ancient rituals. Then I ended up in professor Redick’s class, it was almost like fate. This professor takes students on the Kamino. His class on sacred wilderness only made my interest grow. It gave me a new understanding of pilgrimage and I hope I get to participate in the future.
