Turner and Turner explain the Processual form of rituals in the final appendix. The first step is rite of passage. I feel as though this is something that many people have to do when they first get to college. You need to strip the preconceived notions about yourself and who you were before you came into college and realize things will be different here. You are changing where you stand in order to become more independent and stronger.
This transformation is ever present. though you feel more complete typically by the time 1st semester ends there is still a lot more that needs to be done in order to completely understand your society. I think it also makes a impact as you move up educational levels like from sophomores to juniors. Each step is a step closer to having to be in the "real world" which is another step in the ritual to being a adult.
