Hilary Sheppard - Defining Sacred Place
Lane begins to introduce sacred place, by using quotes from others. One quote states that sacred place is a break in the homogeneity of space, while another writes that all sacred things must have their place, and if the thing is moved from this place, then it will lose its sacred aspects. Lane writes that sacred place is most importantly storied place, and I definitely believe this is true. Especially with religiously sacred places, stories are extremely important. Many of the places visited today are storied places, that have been the subject of stories passed down the generations. If this wasn't true, then people would not be making pilgrimages to sacred places that have not been factually proven to be the site of anything significant. Of course, something does not have to be storied to be sacred, but if someone comes across a new place that they consider to be sacred then they are more than likely to tell someone. After telling someone, the place will become storied, which will add to its sacred aspect.
