Jeff Sellazzo- lanes first axiom in Cold Fever
In Lane's book Landscapes of the Sacred he states four axioms that describe sacred place. His first axiom is the reason the business man in Cold Fever travels half way across the world to get to the ceremonial site to commemorate the life of his parents. This axiom states that sacred place is not chosen, it chooses. The first axiom relates to the place because the place is the place his parents died so that was the ideal place to perform the ceremony for the ceremony to mean as much as it should. If he had done it anywhere else it would have been less special. At first he wanted to just go on vacation instead of commemorating his parents but was talked into going by an elder. Along the journey he realized that the place held a sacred power. This sacred power could not be given to any place of the business man's choosing but that one place.
