The Mask of the Holy-Evan Shively

In sacred Landscapes, Lane discusses how you can never fully appreciate the holy, instead we apply a mask to the holy in order to appreciate it. I know from my christian experience that my God can not be fully appreciate here on earth, and cannot reveal himself fully. Instead we Christians place masks on the holy to in order to experience it. Masks such as church, prayer, bible study, and holidays. We use these different masks as effective means to communicate with the unreachable holy. For example church allows us to confine part of the Holy in a building in order to allow us this experience. However, it is also important to note that these masks are not God Himself. As God said he cannot be confined in or by a church. We cannot become obsessed with the masks but most instead focus on what they represent.
