Rachel Hrovat~Amish Novels

In a recent article in Newsweek, Lisa Miller discusses how Amish romance novels are becoming increasingly popular. She attributes it to “the Amish heroine (and, by extension, her readers), has inner peace, a stable and cohesive community, and obedient children—the result of a right relationship with God.” (newsweek.com) Today culture has distorted the old fashioned idea of love, of family, and of community. Many women choose to read these because it takes them to another world—a world that is more simplistic. These books have a similar impact as wilderness does. Being within a landscape can cause one to think of the busyness and hectic lifestyle they lead. Reading the book shows how relationships become just as crazy and loose sacredness and stability because there is not enough time put into them.
