The Safety offered by Nature-Nayra Guevara

I have never been keen on camping. This can be attributed to the fact that I am scared of most anything. These fears include bugs, flying animals, and other ridiculous things. The fear that affects me the most is my fear of heights. Last month, my small group and I went to a nearby camp to volunteer for the weekend. When we arrived, it was nighttime and I couldn’t see the camp clearly. However, the next morning I marveled at the curves the Shenandoah Mountains made across the sky. I had never seen anything like it. I decided to volunteer on the high ropes course to challenge myself and get over my fear of heights. My post was located on a piece of wood high up in a tree. I felt my stomach twist and turn during ropes course training. I had to sit up in a tree for four hours and encourage high school kids to finish the ropes course. Being up in the tree, I learned to enjoy the awesome view I had. The sun shone through the trees. The tree I was harnessed to was thick and sturdy. While I was up in it, my fear of falling went away. I felt safe up in the tree. I felt as if it were protecting me. That weekend, I faced my fear of heights and understood the power and security offered by nature.
