Spenser Burcak-Virginia's Gem (11/28/10)

One of the things that I have really learned from this class is the Appalachian Trail. Being born and raised in Virginia, I have always known about the Appalachian Trail, but I have never appreciated it. This may seem weird because I love the outdoors, but I have never thought about hiking the Appalachian Trail. This class however, has opened up my mind to the possible of maybe hiking it sometime in the future. I would probably not do the entire trail, but I could really see myself doing a long day hike. I have hiked a few mountains in my past, but that is about all I have done. I have really enjoyed all the stories that Dr. Redick has shared with us about his hikes on the Appalachian Trail and also the movie that we watched in class. The trail also has wonderful people who take pride and respect the trail. These people also seem to be out going and enjoy the company of others. These are the kinds of people that I love to hangout and be around. People like this can make your day and allow you to have experiences that you can remember for the rest of your life. I have also grown into a big supporter of trail magic, which is what makes it so great and why I am proud to have it in my home state.
