After getting out of class the other day, I came back to my room and to wind down I turned my Ipod on shuffle. The first song that came on was the song "April 29, 1992" by Sublime. What immediately popped into my head was the first week of class when we defined and described Sublime, though the definition that we learned related nothing to that of the modern-reggae band.
Sublime was defined as the combination of the utmost fear and amazement. It is the feeling that you get when you experience something of beauty and wonder while being surrounded with feelings of fear and danger. When someone experiences sublime it is as if life has flashed before your eyes, though, one feels alive from more than just adrenaline. The feeling of sublime as been known to cause people to call upon divinity and strengthen there spiritual relationship. This feeling is often common in the presence of remarkable landscapes. Wilderness in this way has been named the gateway for axis mundi and is often the reason for wilderness experience.
