Will Geiger- outside reading

In the last class we had before the final, Dr. Redick told us the story of Hetch Hetchy. When San Francisco was devastated by an earthquake, the motion to create a reservoir for water that had previously been denied was passed. It just so happens that in my government 215 class we learned about shifts in policy for the betterment of a states economy. From the two sources I received two opposing perspectives on development. In both instances the cause of a shift in policy is the occurrence of a crisis. In America today, we are experiencing and economic crisis which has prompted a shift in policy and the sustained condition has resulted in a massive change in leadership from a largely democratic congress to a majority of republican candidates winning in both the House of Representatives and Senate. With Hetch Hetchy, the earthquake was what commanded the overturning of a protected area to development for the publics sake.
