The Skycoaster as a Spiritual Journey - Josh Osteen
I know you have all been to an amusement park and seen that huge structure where people lay down face first and swing like there's no tomorrow. Yeah, I rode one of those one time. It is probably one of the most exhilarating things i've ever done. Being up so high and looking straight down at the ground scared the crap out of me. The entire ride was very scary and very fun. There was a moment right before the ripcord was pulled that I feel like (and I know this is going to sound super cheesy) was right before I entered into flow. As soon as the cord was pulled, my mind went blank. Nothing could go through my head that I could have ever remembered. There was no way that anything could have distracted me from freaking out. I just was falling and nothing else mattered. I didn't even realize basically that I was even falling. Nothing felt real. I truly consider this an example of flow. The entire ride I would like to consider a spiritual journey because there was each one of the phases of a rite of passage that liminality connects to the spiritual journey. I personally don't care about how anybody else thinks this relates or not, but i swear to you that something that adrenaline pumping can be considered a spiritual journey. It does not have to conform to the normal trail hiking visage or the super religious themes at all!
