Best View on Campus -Nate Valorz

12/3/10
I’m pretty sure my window has the best view in the campus. To the left I can see the Trible Library’s lookout tower, with the actually library being covered by the soon to be science building. To my right, just beyond the basketball and volleyball courts, I can see Ratcliffe and McMurran, as well as all the students who frequent these buildings. From the fourth floor I can watch all my friends walk into James River inconspicuously, and although it is kind of creepy, it is very interesting. Watching someone you know when they don’t know they are being watched can be a true reflection on their character. It’s something to try (just don’t be too creepy). Anyway, back to the view. These buildings are big and beautiful during the day, and the sun shining down through the trees leading up to the JR front door is stunning, but I love the view at night, because it uses more of my senses. While during the day I can see people walking in and out of buildings, during the nighttime I usually hear them first. Whether it’s the scraping of sandals against cement or the bumping of long-board wheels on the walkway, the sounds have almost become part of my nightly routine. I took several pictures of the landscape outside my window, but how will I remember the sounds? I suppose this is just something I have to remember on my own. I’ll miss them when it’s finally time to move out.
