Flow is a significant concept that Turner address in his book. Flow adds to the spiritual growth experienced in the journey. It removes the person from society and the various rules he/she must adhere to. It creates a profound feeling that unknowingly changes a person from deep within. Flow is important because it helps the person get to his/her destination by making the physically demanding trip more enjoyable. Turner defines it as “the merging of action and awareness,” when we are fully partaking and enjoying the land. We are not disrupted by our own thoughts or worries because we are fully present and one with the sacred wilderness surroundings. Flow is the action that separates the individual from their hectic lifestyle and places them in the tranquility of nature.
