James Joseph: Landscape of the Sacred (2)

Lane's second axiom, which states "Sacred place is ordinary place, ritually made extraordinary", really sticks out to me based on the fact that places that are sacred to me are always places that I have been to multiple times before. The park I played at when I was a wee lad, the streets I played pick up games of football on, and even the table I continue to eat at for holiday dinners are all sacred places that have become something more due to my frequenting them. Most of us live on a college campus, which as an entirety has become sacred to us. Even to those who don't live on campus, this place has been frequented enough by our human feet that it has taken a certain unique nature in our eyes. Some might wonder how common places like the DSU street or the Trible Library can become sacred, a place of the divine; yet it is in these places that we find ourselves coming closer to ourselves and closer to God.
