Chris McCandIess’ drive to leave the pressures of society in Into the Wild is very rash. I can understand the drive to escape social pressures to revert to a more simple way of living. But to risk your life by living in the wilderness unsupported makes no sense to me. There are so many better ways that you can escape these pressures. Moving to a less populated area, or another, less advanced society are a more safe option that does not put your life at risk. Even just taking a trip into nature but eventually returning or getting help when things go wrong are safer alternatives that still allow escaping to nature.
