Spenser Burcak- Sacred Indian Place in New Mexico (12/3/10)

When I was ten years old, my family took a family trip to see the Grand Canyon in Arizona. At that time, this was a just another vacation that included a long plane ride and hot weather, but I was wrong. My family and I also traveled to some old Native Indian locations and viewed some of their ruin cities. At that time I just wanted to get back in the car and get back to the pool, but I was missing the point that this land was sacred to the Native American's that had lived their. I was ready an article online where the author was trying to get people to not make the same mistake that I did about the sacred places. The only difference was that it was about the sacred Native American places in New Mexico. The article talked about the Chaco Culture National Historical Park, which is the location of the oldest Pueblos from the Anasazi tribe, and the Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs, which was the location of powerful water that the Tewa Indians. These are the things that I missed on that Arizona trip, if I could go back it would be different. This class has helped me see national parks and sites as sacred place.
