This article is about how Mangrum is told to go home by his boss one day and think about his actions and attitude. Mangrum had no idea what he did but he spent the entire weekend staying put in his “cell” at home. He explains that the art of staying put is important to Christian discipline. Many people and monks would go out into the desert to stay put. Staying put helps people learn patience and it allows people to be able to enter into a furnace of renewal. It helps to tare down the idols we build and sets our focus on God. When we take ourselves to our cells we are able to quiet all the noise inside of us and turn our ears to God. We are able to see what is truly valuable in life. We are to then take the lessons we have learned in our cell and apply them to our lives when we leave.
